Some Beary Fun!

It's been a week of stories like My Bear and Me, Corduroy Goes to the Library ,  and the traditional story of Corduroy.  As you know, the Teddy Bear wagons were a hit and we paraded around the center waving to whoever would wave back!  We held them at circle time, read to them, and even had the bear hospital to repair their wounds...
We went through many bandaids and gauze!

I found the best part of this unit was seeing the children enjoy "reading" together "Brown Bear, Brown Bear".  They were so excited to read the story word for word.   After books went home, they were even reciting the words of the book in class.  These are the type activities that really prepare them for Kindergarten.  They have learned about print, that it goes left to right, how to take care of a book, sight words, and literary comprehension.  We are ending our class soon and I am proud that many of them have begun reading.  All of the children know their letters and sounds!

Happy Easter Everyone!

Have a fun weekend egg hunting and being with families!

Some bunnies posed for their Easter photos, sure to go in their journals.

Life cycles Unit

We had a wonderful time learning about life cycles of ladybugs, praying mantis , butterflies and even a water dog (salamander ).

it was fun to let the ladybugs go in the MQueen garden!
The children loved this unit and hands on science is always popular.  We began sprouting our seeds and several went home with sprouts and roots starting to show.
The special project was fun with our initials, and the children painted over two hundred pieces for the project.  cute enough to hang in their rooms!

Top Secret Project

We are making a fun project for our rooms at home.  We have to paint a gazillion puzzle pieces, but no one seems to mind!
It was definitely "M" week and we're busy with gluing macaroni (don't you remember being in school and always gluing macaroni?)  My mom still has the ugly ornament on her Christmas tree!
We read the book Mouse Paint and used the same colors on our palette that the mice did in the book.
We learned how colors can be mixed to make new ones!
We are starting our Life Cycle class this week with
Caterpillars/Butterflies and Ladybugs, too!

It's Curious George Week!

We had a great kickoff for our week with Curious George.  There were many giggles and surprises!

Curious George got a ride to the school with Miss Kathi, but he was a  monkey in trouble when he didn't wear his seatbelt!   We made monkey hats and went on a hunt to find Curious George.  He was definitely getting into trouble!  We found him but he was in big trouble!

First he tried to get banana chips from the vending machine (or "snack box" as Arianna calls it).   We decided he needed to go in the cool down chair for awhile until he could follow the rules!    Curious George brought special plates for our snack today, too.

He even has his own sign inSign Language!        We colored pictures of George and tried writing "monkey" too.

Olivia as the Man in the Yellow Hat!

We ended our day hearing Curious Georges' story.  We learned we can't just call 911 if we don't need the firemen and we always need to stay by our moms and dads and not run away.  And yes, Curious George went to jail, but we won't.   He ended up in the Zoo.   .....and  Miss Kathi went home a tired monkey!

It's Spring Session!

We are back to learning after a restful break.....we are still concentrating on writing, math and letter/sound recognition.   We welcome two new students-Emma and Zach.   Our class is a great blend of personalities and a joy to teach!

We had a great time during Green Week with our leprechaun hunt and found gold coins and blarney stones in a very cool treasure chest.

It's so interesting to watch development and it's what I love most about teaching.  I get to be there when changes are happening.  The children actually asked to have paper to write their names!  Now a writing center has become a hit every class.  Confidence is building and they are learning the letters and sounds every class.  A few of the children have begun the Starfall reading system and are working on their first book.  Nothing better than seeing a child's face light up when they understand the words.
