It's fun with the Elephants!

We learned about elephants this week and how they are in their habitat.   The children learned a new word for "family".....a herd!  Don't be surprised if they refer to YOUR family this way!   We had much fun learning new circus words, songs and  a circus game.   Looking forward to Friday's circus party and they won't let me forget to bring the ice-cream!

ART KIDZ

And....in my Art Kidz class, we continued learning about artists with Eric Carle, creator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other wonderful books.  Mr. Carle's technique uses tissue paper and paint to create his illustrations.  This unit was a big hit, as many of the children know his books.

Pee Wee Camp goes to the Circus!

Ladies and Gentlemen-boys and girls!
The circus has arrived with the children walking the tightrope, playing games, animals in the ring and riding horses!

We will be doing all kinds of "acts" this week, ending in our pretend circus on Friday complete with icecream!

Moving on to Monet!

Art Kamp for Kidz did their special T-shirts and learned about Monet.  The children enjoyed seeing the color bursts as the rubbing alcohol met the sharpie marker ink.

After finishing T-shirts we tried to copy Monet's painting style by using small strokes ( with a Q-tip).  The pictures were great!  Soft pastels are one of my favorites, too.

Summer Time with Pee Wee Camp

We are in the thick of the summer with soaring temps but the children are having " cool time"!  Pee Wee Camp started this week and Art Kidz continues with 4th of July fun this week.
We made candy dishes with red, white and blue and got to know each other on the first day of camp.
We made new friends, what a nice class of children!  We practiced some math too.
Snack time is a great time to listen to some great conversations, and have a yummy treat.  Happy Birthday, Ellie~

Trevor loved his special 4th of July cookie with stars!

Catherine always enjoys the art projects!

Happy 4th of July to all!  Have a great time with your families!

What a wonderful time with your children experiencing art!

This week we learned about Piet Mondrian and his contemporary work using shapes and primary colors.  Today we learned about Van Gogh's love of Sunflowers.  The children looked at a still life arrangement of sunflowers and drew their own wonderful versions.  They always amaze me with their talent to grab new concepts. They were very proud to display their work on the "door gallery".
Next week...more painting celebrating the 4th of July!  If you are taking vacations I wish you fun with your family and travel safe.

Squishy Clay and a lot of Fun!

Today we worked with Crayola Magic clay and made snakes with googly eyes.  The clay foam will harden by next week and we will paint them.    Everyone had a good time doing paint stamps today to make a nice summer visor.   After watercoloring frames, we ended our day with the book The Crayon That Talked, a wonderful book for children to learn that we are all different.  They all learned to get along together in the box.  I believe in teaching diversity and acceptance to children at this age - they are our future!  Have a great Fatherr's Day weekend, see you next week!

After requests for the Zoo Phonics Video, here it is!   Phonics at the Zoo class Pre-K will resume in the Fall Session at the Mcqueen Park Activity Center.  I'd love to have your child join me!
